If you like to drive and also enjoy interacting with fellow human beings, driving a taxi may be the right job for you. The job is even ideal for night owls, since taxi companies work around the clock due to the constant demand.

In most cases, taxi drivers work within the city, but not exclusively. They pick up customers either after arranging a time and location on the phone or at specific hubs (squares, train stations, etc.). At the latter, multiple taxis often wait in line for customers. Usually, customers need to take the first vehicle in the row, but depending on the city/country, they can sometimes just choose any vehicle. In both cases, the drivers wait for their guests.

Simply driving isn’t enough though, because customer service is an equally important part of the job. This includes loading luggage, potentially answering questions on the area, or fulfilling wishes within a certain framework.

In Luxembourg, taxi drivers are partly trained by companies. Initially, they accompany an experienced colleague, before they can finally drive on their own. Additionally, they must obtain an official licence from the “Département des transports”. This takes place after successfully completing a one-week training.
